Rise From Sin and Walk in the Newness of Life

Welcome to Close to Him Ministry’s Daily Spiritual Food. Today’s spiritual food is taken from;

John 5:8 -“Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

Today’s verse is continuation of the conversation between Jesus Christ and the man at the pool of Bethesda. Yesterday, we learned that Jesus asked the man whether he want to be made well. When the man heard the question, he responded “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

His answer suggested he needed healing, and so with these words, “Rise, take up your bed and walk”, Jesus commanded the man to act on his faith. This command required not just physical action but also a leap of faith from the man, as he had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years. By telling him to take up his bed, Jesus ensures that the man does not fall back into his previous state. The man was made well by responding to Jesus’ command.

This is a powerful reminder that faith requires action. When we are called by Christ, we must respond with obedience, leaving behind our old ways and walking in the new life He offers. It’s a call to rise above our circumstances, to trust in Christ’s power to heal and restore, and to walk in faith, knowing that He has made us whole.
